In 2016 I was given a task that shaped everything after it: offboard an outsourcing operation in eastern Europe and build a new team in Prishtinë — in the country my family comes from, in a market most Swiss companies could not place on a map.
What Kosovë actually offers
The youngest population in Europe. Engineers who grew up rebuilding everything from scratch and think in solutions, not in tickets. German widely spoken, Swiss work ethic surprisingly compatible, time zone identical. The price advantage is what gets Swiss companies interested; the talent density is what makes them stay. What most companies get wrong
They treat nearshore teams as capacity, not as colleagues. Capacity you can swap; colleagues compound. We hired for ownership, trained on real client context, and gave the team direct client contact instead of hiding them behind a project manager. The result was a team that caught problems before Zürich woke up.The bridge as a business model
Today the eksperts runs on the same bridge — strategy and client responsibility in Switzerland, engineering power in Prishtinë, one culture across both. Being from both worlds is my unfair advantage: I can hear what a Swiss client means and what a Kosovar engineer worries about, in their own languages.Nearshoring fails on culture, not on code. Build the bridge properly and it carries more than projects — it carries careers on both ends.
